WEEKLY UPDATE ON WESTERN CAUCUS MEMBERS TAKING ACTION FOR RURAL AMERICA

LAKE TAHOE FIELD TOUR

Last week members of the Western Caucus, staff, and supporters participated in the Lake Tahoe Field Tour & Policy Discussion in South Lake Tahoe, CA/NV.

Industry leaders and the United States Forest Service led discussions and guided attendees through relevant sites to show how the region manages water, wildfire, and forest management.

Thank you to all of our trip sponsors for making this Field Tour possible.

Western Caucus members Rep. Cliff Bentz (OR-02) and Rep. Lauren Boebert (CO-03) have been hard at work to protect western Americans from the Gray Wolf, an apex predator currently protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Rep. Beobert’s H.R. 764 was passed the House earlier this week. The bill will remove the Gray Wolf from the Endangered Species List if signed into law.

Rep. Cliff Bentz got the answer rural America needs from U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Deb Haaland. Haaland ADMITS that the Gray Wolf is NOT “at risk of extinction in the western U.S. now or [in] the foreseeable future.

WESTERN CAUCUS UPDATES

Western Caucus member Rep. John Curtis (UT-03)’s legislation has been passed by the House.

The Western Economic Security Today (WEST) Act “will repeal the BLM Conservation and Landscape Health Rule.”

“The rule the BLM recently finalized undermines the very people who rely on our federal lands for ranching, grazing, recreation, and beyond.” – Rep. Curtis

This week, the House passed the Superior National Forest Restoration Act introduced by Western Caucus Vice Chair Pete Stauber (MN-08) with strong bipartisan support.

“This bill overturns the Biden Administration’s political decision to withdraw over 225,000 acres of mineral-rich land and cancel existing mineral leases in Minnesota’s Superior National Forest.”

Senate Western Caucus Chair Sen. Cynthia Lummis (WY) issued a response statement to the EPS’s Clean Power Plan 2.0 regulations that threaten American energy production, especially in Wyoming.

“Forcing the closure of gas and coal-fired plants that account for 60% of electricity generated across the country, while increasing demand by 30% through an electric vehicle mandate is not only unrealistic but dangerous. I will be working with my colleagues to overturn this disastrous set of regulations and protect Wyoming energy workers who power this country.”
