WEEKLY UPDATE ON WESTERN CAUCUS MEMBERS TAKING ACTION FOR RURAL AMERICA
FARM BILL HIGHLIGHTS FROM WESTERN CAUCUS MEMBERS
Spirits are still high from last week’s passage of the 2024 Farm, Food, and National Security Act, commonly known as the Farm Bill. In a time when Americans are experiencing a cost-of-living crisis and farmers average over a million dollars of debt each, addressing food insecurity and helping our farmers are some of the top priorities of the Farm Bill.
Congressional Western Caucus members serving on the House Agriculture Committee have made several beneficial contributions to the Farm Bill. Below, we have highlighted our members celebrating this victory and included the updated bill.
HONORING MEMORIAL DAY
Many members of both the House and Senate Western Caucus have spent the week in their districts honoring the sacrifices of American soldiers on Memorial Day and meeting with groups and individuals in their districts to learn how they can best-serve their constituents.
See how some of them honored our fallen troops on Memorial Day 2024.
WESTERN CAUCUS UPDATES
Senate Western Caucus Chair Cynthia Lummis (WY) and Senators John Barrasso (WY), John Thune (SD), and Mike Rounds (SD) criticized the Biden administration’s forest management policies in a letter to U.S. Forest Service Chief Randy Moore arguing that reduced tree harvesting in the Black Hills National Forest has led to sawmill closures and job losses.
They urged the administration to increase timber harvesting to support Wyoming and South Dakota sawmills and workers affected by these policies.
